short intro

Solo traveling is the best therapy to develop self-confidence, problem-solving and mind-learning. You’ll have nobody but yourself and that’s amazing as you’ll get a lot of time to meditate.

It’s also wonderful to meet people on the way and learn about their stories. That’s why I really recommend to stay in hostels as you are very likely to meet a lot of people. Although solo traveling is incredible, it can get you feel a bit lonely sometimes so it’s better to stay at places full of people just like you: travelers. TIP HERE: Check out Hostel World as you’ll find many options and use Skyscanner to find the best flight options and play with dates if you have flexibility.

Depending on your budget, I recommend choosing one destination or another one. Asia is great for traveling low cost and for cultural immersion. If you’d like a solo luxury travel definitely think of Bahamas, Maldives, Japan, etc. Maybe you’d like the best of both worlds? If you are looking to travel for a while and enjoy with low cost together with a luxury treat, consider traveling two different countries that offer you just that. After reading this post have a look at our Mix Trip: Travel two countries post and I’ll show you some examples.

1. Thailand

Beginner's first solo trip

If you fancy traveling far away to a remote place looking forward to a contrasting culture and loving people… Thailand is definitely your best option.

I couldn’t think of a better place for a beginner’s solo trip.

Thailand is pretty safe itself for travelers (considering that each country somehow has unsafe areas to not visit). You will be treated with respect and kindness. Also, the currency exchange will probably benefit you and you’ll be able to travel to amazing places and sleep in wonderful stays in a budget.

Best time to visit: Although the climate is different depending on the area, you can visit Thailand anytime as the weather is tropical and warm all year long. The best season to visit Thailand is from November till early April as it’s dry season.

PLACES YOU MUST VISIT IN THAILAND:
1. Chiang Mai
(North)
2. Koh Phi Phi Island
3. Krabi
(for relaxation)
4. Khao Sok National Park
5. Mae Hong Son Province
(one of the most isolated places in Thailand)
6. Ko Yao Noi Island
7. Koh Samui

2. Sri Lanka

The kindest country on Earth

I felt like crying multiple times due to the amount of kindness and love I received. Meeting this charming culture is a life-changing experience

Feel completely safe and don’t doubt locals will help you if needed.

You will see what I mean if you go and explore the little towns, away from the big cities. I had the best experience. All the locals came to me just to chat and show me around and even inviting me to have lunch with their families. AS IF IN OUR COUNTRY THIS WOULDN’T SOUND DODGY. I learned just that… how much we all need to learn about sharing and being kind.

PLACES YOU MUST VISIT:
1. Galle
2. Kataragama
3. Haputale tea plantation villages
4. Mirissa
5. Sigiriya
6. Sinharaja

3. China

You can never get enough

China is something else. You will feel like an alien coming from another world or, perhaps, you’ll feel like entering a totally different universe. Not kidding. This is a trip targeted for those solo travelers looking for a shocking cultural immersion.

Credit cards won’t work, social media and Whatsapp are baned (VPN tip here), signs are fully in Chinese Hanzi and barely nobody speaks english, etc. This trip will totally show you just how capable you are at problem-solving and making your way around. However, I have to say I felt super safe at all times even though I was kind of lost every time.

Best time to visit: anytime. Nevertheless, bear in mind China is huge and has the same time zone for all the country (which I still don’t understand). While somewhere at 3pm is sunny, on the other side of China will be night time. Therefore, if you are traveling on summer, I suggest going south (although it is very hot and humid). Also, money exchange will benefit you as everything is pretty cheap apart from transportation (trains and flights are quite expensive considering the rest).

PLACES TO VISIT:
1. Yanghsuo
2. Guilin
3. Zhangjiajie Park
4. Cheng Du
5. Beijing

4. U.S.A

Feel the American vibe

The U.S.A has many States that are just perfect for a nice holiday. However, it is very difficult to travel low cost (if you compare it with other destinations such as traveling through Asia).

The best time to visit the U.S.A is between June and September but it depends where you go. In the warmer areas, such as California and Florida, spring and autumn usually offer the best weather.

PLACES TO VISIT:
1.
If you have the chance, definitely do Route 66 by car or motorbike. This is the best option to get the most of your trip.
2. New York
(obviously)
3. Los Ángeles and Hawaii mix trip
4. Miami
(perhaps consider doing a mix-trip and visit an island from Central America)
5. Las Vegas
BABY
6. Grand Canyon

7. San Francisco
8. San Diego and cross the border to Mexico

5. Italy

Europe's hidden gem

Italy is my favourite place in Europe. I am not sure if it’s because of the stunning views and beaches, the mouth-watering food or the sexy accent that makes it my weakness – probably a mix of them all.

You can find amazing flight options to Italy if you are traveling from another country in Europe and also great accommodation options for every budget. Europe is not really a low cost destination to visit but you can find accesible options.

The best time to visit Italy is during the summer season (June to September) due to the hot weather. However, I highly not recommend this as it’s too crowded. If you don’t mind the people nor the prices going crazily up because you’d like hot and beachy holidays, it’s a good choice. But if you’d like to discover Italy with barely nobody around, I highly recommend traveling from February to May but consider the weather is very cold during winter.

PLACES TO VISIT:
1. Lago di Como’s towns
(Bellagio my fav)
2. Amalfi Coast
3. Bari
4. Venecia

5. Cerdeña
6. Sicilia
7. Rome
