short intro

Thailand is a beautiful country with kind people and incredible food and views. It was my first long-flight trip and I was really excited. I can’t think of a better option for a beginner’s first time traveling far away. If you’d like to explore the country, I recommend at least two weeks so you have enough time to enjoy and discover as much as you can.

MY TOTAL BUDGET FOR 2 WEEK ITINERARY: includes flights, meals, hotels, transfers and activities visiting 5 places

1100 EUR

My flight was in August costing 600 EUR return with one stop on the way. I always find good deals in Skyscanner. If you have flexibility with your holiday, play with different dates and flight prices may differ a lot. Also, consider Thailand as a low cost destination. The best time to visit is between November and early April as it’s dry season. It didn’t rained much when we went but when it did it was pouring like crazy! Beautfil tho, I would definitely travel again during the monsoon season.

PLACES WE EXPLORED IN TWO WEEKS: Bangkok – Chiang Mai – Khao Sok – Phuket – Phi Phi Island

You can easily move around the country by plane as the flight tickets inside the country are really cheap. Between short distances definitely consider local buses.

Here is my 2-week itinerary to Thailand

Day 1 - 111. Arriving to Bangkok

& spend 2 day max.

As soon as arriving to Bangkok, we went straight to On the Bed Hostel and we spend 20EUR for one night. Bare in mind that if you are traveling from Europe, you will miss one day for the flight.

I recommend staying maximum one day or two in Bangkok. It’s a crazy city and it’s nice to walk around and discover the different temples, but has nothing too special to even considering staying longer compared to what’s waiting for you all around Thailand.

PLACES YOU MUST NOT MISS IN BANGKOK:
1. The Grand Palace & Wat Pho & Wat Arun:
The trio of temples you must not miss
2. Lumphini Park: Have a walk around and spot some Komodo dragons!
3. Soi Cowboy:
Street full of neon lights, famous lady-boys and ping-pong shows and passing through all kinds of Go-go bars. Not recommended to go with kids
4. China Town

5. Khlong Lat Mayom Floating Market

6. Watch a boxing match in Rajadamnern Thai Boxing Stadiu

Day 111 & V1 Chiang Mai

Flight to Chiang Mai

We decided to go up north to Chiang Mai by plane. Our tickets cost 20EUR including return to Phuket. We stayed in Kittawan Home & Gallery for 15EUR a night, double bed room with breakfast included for two. The place, the silence, the whole peaceful atmosphere… we fell in love with the place. It was definitely our favourite stay in Thailand. I highly recommend renting a motorbike directly with them and go and get lost exploring Chiang Mai and the surrounding areas.

I highly recommend staying at least 2 days: 1 for the elephant experience & the last one to explore around.

PLACES YOU MUST VISIT IN CHIANG MAI:
1. Elephant Nature Park: This is your must see!
An elephant rescue and rehabilitation center where you can enjoy the elephants’ company in a sustainable way
2. Chiang Mai Old Town
to discover many temples
3. Enjoy a traditional Thai massage after a long day exploring around
4. Go and discover the outskirts by motorbike and see what you find!

Day V1 - V111. Khao Sok

Flown to Phuket and booked a tour

We flown to Phuket from Chiang Mai and stayed for one night in Phuket Capsule Hidden Pool Bar and we paid 25EUR for a double room with breakfast included.

We dedicated the day to explore around (I wouldn’t stay more than one day in Phuket) and booked a tour to Khao Sok National Park for the next day. The price was 200EUR with everything included. Check below what we did.

KHAO SOK LAKE 2 DAY GROUP SAFARI:
Day 1: Departed from Phuket on a private shuttle arranged by them to Rajaprabha Dam & boarded in a long tail boat. As soon as we arrived we had lunch at the Raft House & after we went to the jungle to explore caves, viewpoints and waterfalls. We also had a traditional Thai Dinner in the main area and slept in our floating Bamboo Bungalow (basic accommodation, don’t expect any luxuries)
Day 2: Morning mist wildlife-spotting boat safari & breakfast. We had some free time for swimming and canoeing, had dinner afterwards and returned to Phuket. The canoeing first thing in the morning is something else! You hear nothing but birds singing & see astonishing views.

After the tour we wanted to enjoy the jungle a bit more & gave ourselves a treat so we stayed for one more night in Rock and Treehouse Resort . Monkeys waked us up in the early morning!

V111 - X11 Phi Phi

Back to Phuket and stayed for the night to catch the ferry the next day

We stayed in Phi Phi Cliff Beach Resort and completely loved it. Bare in mind this is more of a luxury treat in the island but you can find options for 20EUR for two in Booking.com

We booked the swimming with sharks tour but there is no need to book it in advance as there are many options to book along the island. Apart from swimming with small sharks, you will snorkel in one of the prettiest places in the world.

For our last days, we relaxed in the beach and explored the island. You can rent a kayak and go and explore yourself!

After this, we went back to Phuket by ferry and then catch the plane to Bangkok (stayed for the night) to end our trip.
