WHAT TO EXPECT

Hungary is one of the most beautiful cities I’ve seen. The architecture is unbelievable and the whole cleanness in the city is spotless. Another highlight to point out is that although Hungary is a European country, they have their own currency and it’s a suitable option as the exchange rate with EUROS is cheaper.

Best time to visit

The best time to visit Budapest are from March to May and September through November. These is when the city isn’t overcrowded with tourists. I personally love traveling to Budapest during winter to being able to enjoy the outdoor thermal baths. It feels completely different when it’s freezing but you are having a swim in a 40ºC water!

THINGS TO KNOW

Currency: Hungary’s official currency is the Hungarian Forint (HUF). Many stores and other places accept Euro (EUR) as well but Hungary is not yet a member of the euro area.

Language: The official language of the country is Hungarian but many people speak English

Plugs: The power plugs are of type C and F. The standard voltage is 230 V and the standard frequency is 50 Hz.

VISA: Hungary is a member country of the EU and no VISA is required for EU citizens. Australia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Brazil, Canada, Israel, Japan, Macedonia, Montenegro, New Zealand, Serbia, Singapore, South Korea and the USA are also visa-exempt for a stay of up to 90 days.

Safety: Hungary is generally considered a safe country. The most common risk faced by foreign citizens is theft by pickpockets, usually in crowded areas, public transport or tourist areas. For this reason, it is advisable to keep an eye on handbags and hand luggage.

Health: For EU citizens it is extremely important to have the European Health Card (EHIC), which guarantees assistance from the Social Security of the European country of origin. For other nationalities it is always advisable to get a good travel insurance.
